First of all, we all know this is a trumped up day.  A blatant push to hook innocent schmucks into spending money on the love of their life. And next to New Year’s Eve, it is the worst night to go out to dinner.  With that said, one may feel odd to be alone on this syrupy day.  Not to worry, as they say you need to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative (believe me, I know, easier said than done).  On the Elephant Journal blog, Kathryn Ashworth has touching thoughts that hit the bullseye about being alone as opposed to being lonely.  Take time and read it slowly because it applies to every other day of the year.  On to the business at hand.  Make plans in advance so you have something...

There are a lot of buzz words that you don’t want to hear.  For instance, if you’re golfing, the three most hated words to hear are “Your still up”.  If you’re in a restaurant and you hear someone walking through and asking who’s the owner of and describes your car — not good.  Chances are, there’s a new dent in it…..  Lately, as in the past year, I’ve heard three words a just a leeeettle too often.  These words have caused me to shutter and openly glare at the person who said them.  The irony is, I think the person saying them thinks they are complimenting me.  Au contraire, my little chickadee.  What, pray tell, are those horrific words, you ask?   Well, I’ll tell you.  The three words are……… “FOR YOUR AGE”.  ...

Let’s Don’t and Say We Did...

The first week of the new year is just about over and the fail safe greeting of “Happy New Year” is soon to be unacceptable.  Yep, it’ll be back to the stale, generic “Hello” or in our area, “How have you been?”.  I’ve packed away the Christmas decorations and again, I understand why my Mother’s tree got smaller and smaller.  I’m seeing the attributes of a table-top tree.  And then, there was New Year’s Eve……… Denny and I decided to “stay in” on what we call amateur night.  You know the night where people who never go out during the rest of the year, except for Valentine’s Day, and get gussied up to be in a room full of people they don’t know in a place that has jacked up the prices of Sysco...

The Best Birthday He Never Had

Oct 26, 2015 by

The weekend didn’t turn out like I had planned—what an understatement.  Today is Dennis’ birthday and I had made plans to celebrate in San Antonio at La Cantera Hill Country Resort for the weekend.  We had dinner reservations at Silo and a tee time after a Sunday brunch, the next day.  Francesca was going to keep Mitch—–it was going to be a fun weekend.  Was.  I’m trying to remember the exact chain of events that caused the weekend detour. I reserved a ninety minute massage for Dennis on Friday afternoon to get the weekend off to a relaxing start.  That went well, he loved it.  The next morning, I made coast toast-an attempt to recreate a wonderful brunch dish we had in La Jolla.  At this point, I ask you to refer back to...

And, it’s called La Jolla.  Yes, I have been to the mountain top.  It certainly wasn’t my first time to be there, but every time I go, it just gets better and better.  There’s no such thing as a bad trip to southern California.  You’ll probably be reading a lot of posts about this last trip, but for now, I’m just gonna concentrate on the food.  OMG, how can it be sooo fabulous?  I know, everything is fresh.  Everything.  I did not see one Sysco truck—they probably are outlawed.  I bet they stop them at the state line.  And there are so many choices of divine places to eat….and so little time.  Before the trip, I did tons of research.  Trip Advisor, Zagat, etc.  The pressure was on because it was my turn to...
