THE MOST TALKED ABOUT SUBJECT IN THE WORLD…….....

Feb 22, 2015 by

You guessed it—the weather.  And what a week it’s been.  Those poor people in the northeast are getting slammed.  My friend, Susie, is stuck in Washington, D.C. because her flight has been delayed — for 2 days.  Thank goodness, she has a second home there.  I told her at least your not stranded in the airport, sleeping on the floor.  And you know what all that horrible weather means?  Those people are gonna be movin’ south!  (I just hope they bring water with them.)  But, they’ll probably go back north after going through an August in Texas.  As for me, today will be spent getting ready for watching the Academy Awards and of course, the red carpet before (I’ll miss Joan Rivers!).  I know, I know it is self promotion but just allow me...

WHERE DID THE ROMANCE GO?

What is happening to Valentines Day?  It used to be about couples celebrating their love.  Flowers.  Chocolate.  Going out for dinner.  You know, it was row-mannnn-tick.  Now, there are celebrations for “Valentine haters”.  I must admit, the day does put a little pressure on people and thank goodness people are figuring out you can celebrate with anyone, but I do detect a little sarcasm this year…………….  I’m kinda enjoying it.              ...

I REMEMBER HALLOWEEN

Oct 28, 2014 by

What’s up with Halloween?  It really is the bipolar holiday that goes and comes.  Just a few years ago, there were aisles and aisles of Halloween stuff to buy.  But, this year—mmmnnnot so much.  This year it seems we glossed over All Hallows Eve and went straight to Thanksgiving.  What a shame.  I look back on the good ol days when kids could put on a cute little devil costume or old sheet and have one heck of a good time.  Remember when we could walk around the neighborhood, knock on strange doors, and come home and gorge on candy that was not hermitically sealed while listening to The Monster Mash?  Yep, gone are the days of cake walks and spook houses at Halloween carnivals-thank you very much political correctness and extreme fanatics.  Now, we have milk...

WEIRD, WEIRDER, WEIRDEST

Oct 11, 2014 by

Since we’re coming up on Halloween, let’s talk weird.  Just the word looks — well, weird.  Whether you use it as an adjective or adverb, I bet you say it at least once a day being it’s synonymous with strange and heaven knows there’s some strange stuff going on in this world.  But for now, I’m just talking about the fun weird things – things you may not have heard about.  For instance did you know that celebrities have weird beauty secrets?  OK, that’s not a shocker.  But, did you know the weird stuff that’s in make-up?  And what about Austin’s weird home tour?  I know, that’s redundant.  I’ll bet you didn’t know the weird beauty fixes for hot weather and by the way, will we ever get cool weather?  (For all of you in far...

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Sep 27, 2014 by

I guess I’m kinda bored.  Dennis is on a business trip and Mitch and I are home watching the Ryder Cup.  Don’t you just love that Cadillac commercial where the guy thinks all the gorgeous girls are looking at him?  Especially when he steps off the curve.  Anyway, it’s overcast outside and humid so that’s my excuse for staying inside.  I’ve just tried to duplicate the spinach pizza that I am addicted to at Tea Thyme in Marble Falls.  They use a rice paper for the crust and it is just delicious.  I’ve just got to get that recipe (speaking of Stepford Wives).  Yesterday, I went to the store to get rations so I can hibernate and enjoy the empty nest and I planned on getting lots of stuff done—so far that hasn’t happened....

SNAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL…

Aug 23, 2014 by

Every once in a while, I get a reminded I really am living in the country.  Sure, I’m literally a hundred yards from a Starbucks and I look out my living room window and see Marble Falls down the hill where the orange HEB sign looks back at me in the distance.  The Thursday morning garbage truck is also a reminder I’m living amongst the more civilized parts of the world.  All the indicators are there that I’m in a neighborhood with restrictions, codes, and control.  But, at night, the  pasture that is about fifty yards away on the other side creeps it’s way into our yard and reminds us we are steps away from Mother Nature.  What a glorious combination!  You see, in our yard is a big ol’ concrete bird bath that...
