CONFESSIONS OF A ROADSHOW GROUPIE...

Jun 29, 2014 by

It was one of those friend of a friend kind of things.  June has a friend who gave her 4 tickets to the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW in Austin.  I was thrilled to get a behind the scenes view of the popular PBS television show.     What would I take?  The first things I thought of were the huge silver platter, the crystal cheese dome, my great-grandmother’s crazy quilt, or the silver tea service.   Or, maybe the Queen Anne desk?  But when I started thinking about packing up and carrying that stuff, I clearly thought I needed a plan B.  My friend Linda had the timely idea of taking my great grandfather’s spurs.  The great grandfather who was  in the Texas Frontier Forces which was the precursor of the Texas Rangers.   I also...

Ooo-ooo-oooo, Bay-Bee, Bay-Bee

Every once in a while, I run across a product that I really think is new, fresh and worthy of passing on.  A Little Bundle is one of those.  It’s a company that not only has adorable baby stuff, but they will send monthly baby gifts to a very lucky anointed one.  It’s great for the little ones who live out of town as they ship everywhere and it would be a wonderful hostess gift for a sip and see when you and your girlfriends welcome a close friend’s visiting new grand baby.  Look at it as the “Harry and David” of the bambino world.  Ay-yund, it’s home grown—Austin, right in the heart of Texas!  Click here to get all the poop—get it?...

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, DARLIN….....

Jun 21, 2014 by

Tonight, Dennis and I will be celebrating a 40th anniversary.  No, no-not ours, silly.  It’s the 40th anniversary of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie.  And guess where we will be having our little dinner?  In THE house where the legendary movie was filmed!  It all started when I happened to mention to my friend, Janey, that I had read that the movie anniversary was coming up and wouldn’t it be a hoot to go to Kingsland (Texas, of course) and have dinner in the house where the 1973 movie was filmed?  Perrr-Fect!  I must explain, the house was not located in Kingland at the time of filming.  It was moved from Round Rock to the little town on Lake LBJ.  But, here’s the coincidence—Janey says, “Well, you know, I went to school with the author.”...

SMALL TOWN ON A SATURDAY NIGHT

Jun 16, 2014 by

Howl at the moon, shoot out the lights—–so says Hal Ketchum about small towns on Saturday nights.  When you live in the Texas hill country, especially in a resort area, any night can be a Saturday night.  Marble Falls is about forty some odd miles from Austin—but it was very noticeable a few nights ago that the distance is getting shorter and shorter.  For instance, last week, Gary P. Nunn played at the Uptown Theatre, Ray Benson (as in Asleep At The Wheel) played at A.J.’s,  and The R Bar and Mr. B’s also had live music.  And sweetie, this was just in the downtown area!  Doc’s, just a few blocks up Main Street had live music.  And, just a couple of miles west of town, On The Rocks had Jo Hell playing.  And...
