SNAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL…

Every once in a while, I get a reminded I really am living in the country.  Sure, I’m literally a hundred yards from a Starbucks and I look out my living room window and see Marble Falls down the hill where the orange HEB sign looks back at me in the distance.  The Thursday morning garbage truck is also a reminder I’m living amongst the more civilized parts of the world.  All the indicators are there that I’m in a neighborhood with restrictions, codes, and control.  But, at night, the  pasture that is about fifty yards away on the other side creeps it’s way into our yard and reminds us we are steps away from Mother Nature.  What a glorious combination!  You see, in our yard is a big ol’ concrete bird bath that...

WHAT’S ON YOUR PLAYLIST, LAZARUS?...

On August 22, I will remember my Mother on her birthday.  As I told you before, my Mother was a cute little thing.  When you met her you would immediately think of the word, sweet.  Her latter years were spent in a world that only she could navigate.  When I would visit her in the nursing home, I could enter her world, but she never could share mine.  Dementia would not let her.  Except for that one day when I wheeled her in to the big room where they were having the weekly music social.  I pushed her wheelchair up to the very front and pulled up a chair next to her.  The man always played the old songs.  I don’t mean The Platters or Elvis.  I mean the reeeeealy old ones like Bob...

Finally, I drove...

LET’S GO TO LUCKENBACH, TEXAS...

Aug 3, 2014 by

You know the rest—-with Waylon and Willlllllll-ly and the boys.  O, come on, you know you know it!  That successful life we’re livin’ …yatta yatta yatta.  Well, we did go back—yesterday.  It had been ages since I had been to the place where “everybody is somebody”.  And boy, oh boy, has Luckenbach changed since my first visit in the seventies.  Not to mention, how much it has changed since it’s very beginning back in the mid 1800’s. Now, instead of circling the wagons to protect against Comanche Indians, they circle food trucks from Austin.  Take yesterday, some of Austin’s best movable feast vehicles moseyd on over and along with several Texas Hill Country Wineries displayed their treats and eats.  From lobster rolls to cupcakes and of course, bar-b-que!  After all, it is Texas.  To...
