LOOK-DON’T TOUCH

Mar 30, 2015 by

Yesterday, I walked Mitch down the street toward Starbucks – just a quick stroll sandwiched in between early church (as in 8 AM !!!), brunch with a friend, then golf.  Here’s an interesting sidebar.  One of our favorite couples has recently divorced.  Brunch was with the ex-wife, then, golf was with the ex-husband.  At one point, I was texting simultaneous messages and it was quite stressful.  That’s got to be another blog article!  Anyway, back to my walk.  It was one of those days that reminds you why you live in the Texas hill country.  We (as in Mitch and me) walked  just past the coffee cup lot (see Pretend You Never Heard This post) which is now covered in bluebonnets.  It was that time of the day when people were streaming in for Sunday...

I THINK I’VE BEEN SNOOKERED...

Mar 23, 2015 by

That’s the term my aunt used to say when the wool had been pulled over her eyes.  I think that’s happened to me.  I don’t know the exact time and it’s not just one place where it’s happened.  Evidently, it’s been a gradual thing.  It dawned on me when I was looking at a pricy dress that had a zipper on the outside of the dress that something was wrong.  The dress looked unfinished.  It looked like something my high school home economics class teacher would have tossed back in my face and told me to rip it out and start over.  I then started noticing other clothing with seams on the outside.  And hems that were just serged or worse, just chopped off.  Another big eye opener was reading an article that told...

TIZ THE SEASON

Mar 15, 2015 by

Ahhhhhhh, yessssss——the seeeeeeeezon.  I know, one quickly has images of socialites and a swirl of parties for mostly days gone by.  The times of Jay Gatsby (you young’uns may think of Leo, but to me Jay Gatsby will always be Robert Redford) or the Hamptons or Newport, Rhode Island.  But, if you’re in the Texas Hill Country, “thu season” means……………. BLUE BONNETS !!!  And yes sirreee bob, it is thee season.  It is game on.  Let the camera clicking begin.  The blues have just started peaking out of the winter doldrums and in a few weeks, thousands of people will make time to take a little road trip to the central part of the Lone Star State.  It’s like a yearly sabbatical to Mecca.  I guess my parents just weren’t into wildflowers.  I don’t remember any...

GIRLS NIGHT OUT

Mar 9, 2015 by

I didn’t post yesterday because I knew the John Mellencamp concert (last night) would be worthy of talking about.  The whole weekend was really fun.  Saturday night was the Wild Turkey Federation fundraiser – yes, you heard right.  I did not know the turkeys needed saving or funding but it really makes a fun party.  Besides that, Denny won a gun on the silent auction.  I’m going to spell it phonetically —– thirty aught six.  I’m sure that’s not how they list it at Cabela’s, but you get the point.  Anyway, back to Mellencamp.  Oh, how the dynamics have changed since my first days of going to concerts.  This one started off as two couples getting together for an evening in the city.  It’s funny how a divorce can totally screw up you social...

PRETEND YOU NEVER HEARD THIS…PLEEEEEEZ...

Mar 1, 2015 by

I’m going to tell you something, but, you have to swear you won’t repeat it.  I should just let it drop or go away, but, I can’t help it.  I’ve just got to tell someone.  I need to purge……..Okay.  Here goes……A couple of days ago, I was sitting in my rocker, having my second cup of coffee, going through emails, reading the paper and looked out the window.  It was our third day of horrible weather.  Gloomy.  Cold.  Damp.  Grey.  I know, I know–you people up north would’ve been out in shorts, but for us Texans, this was a horrible run on the weather.  I hadn’t walked Mitch in days, I had tried to get into a book.  I had over cooked and over eaten—-cabin fever had set in.  I was like James Stewart...
