Oh Shit-did I really just turn 63?...

I know I’m going to wake up.  I’m not saying it’s a nightmare, it’s more like an out of body experience.  A 63 year old body experience.  No way!  I remember my Mother used to say the older you get, the faster time flies by.  That’s when I thought forty was old.  Not only do I see my Mother’s hands when I look down at the end of my arms, but I’ve starting to see her face when I look in the mirror.  Where has the time gone?  The strange thing is, based on my genetics, I’ve got about thirty years left in the tank!  What the heck am I gonna do the next thirty years?  Of course, everybody’s usual answer is “Travel!”  Maybe this is a sign of getting old, but I’m really starting...

ANTHONY BOURDAIN

Teresa and I made a quick trip to Austin a couple of nights ago to see the obnoxious and entertaining, Anthony Bourdain.  I couldn’t keep track of all the F bombs and thought the first part of the show was a little narcisstic, but I either got anesthetized or just went with it and found myself enjoying what he was saying—especially his take on social media. Bass Hall was packed and obviously, he has a cult following.  I forgot to mention we went to a wonderful Mexican food restaurant before.  I have not had Mexican food since the Maxican closed in Burnet.  I googled places to eat near Bass Hall and this one popped up.  It’s called El Chile Cafe and Cantina and is right across the interstate from the UT campus.  It would...

THE PARTY’S OVER

I’m on the sofa, watching the women’s soccer final and I can’t believe I’ve been inside all day long.  So different than  yesterday, July 4th.  What a fun day that was.  It’s always been one of my favorite holidays, full of food and getting outdoors.  I have noticed as I get older, I really do remember to thank and mindfully honor our country and it’s world changing beginning.  I think about how lucky, no blessed, I am to have won the lottery and been born in the USA.  But back to the supersized celebrating.  This year, we hadn’t made big plans, we were still basking in the memory of being in Switzerland last year at the Montreux Jazz Festival.  So, this year, it was “just play it by ear”.  About a week before, my...
