WHEN I’M 64………..pounds heavier....

Oct 23, 2016 by

That’s what I think I gained on my last birthweek.  It was a calorie marathon and I crossed the finish line with flying colors.  Nooooo problem.  And, my friends really stepped up to the plate to insure I would not have a pang of hunger during that week by helping me celebrate all throughout the Texas hill country.  Marble Falls, Johnson City, Austin and Fredericksburg were the B-day destinations.  Here are some pictures of celebrating my sixty-fourth.  By the way, I’ve got a great idea for my next birthday gift………elastic!   (Click here to remember…..)                                                                                 ...

ANTHONY BOURDAIN

Jul 12, 2015 by

Teresa and I made a quick trip to Austin a couple of nights ago to see the obnoxious and entertaining, Anthony Bourdain.  I couldn’t keep track of all the F bombs and thought the first part of the show was a little narcisstic, but I either got anesthetized or just went with it and found myself enjoying what he was saying—especially his take on social media. Bass Hall was packed and obviously, he has a cult following.  I forgot to mention we went to a wonderful Mexican food restaurant before.  I have not had Mexican food since the Maxican closed in Burnet.  I googled places to eat near Bass Hall and this one popped up.  It’s called El Chile Cafe and Cantina and is right across the interstate from the UT campus.  It would...

GIRLS NIGHT OUT

Mar 9, 2015 by

I didn’t post yesterday because I knew the John Mellencamp concert (last night) would be worthy of talking about.  The whole weekend was really fun.  Saturday night was the Wild Turkey Federation fundraiser – yes, you heard right.  I did not know the turkeys needed saving or funding but it really makes a fun party.  Besides that, Denny won a gun on the silent auction.  I’m going to spell it phonetically —– thirty aught six.  I’m sure that’s not how they list it at Cabela’s, but you get the point.  Anyway, back to Mellencamp.  Oh, how the dynamics have changed since my first days of going to concerts.  This one started off as two couples getting together for an evening in the city.  It’s funny how a divorce can totally screw up you social...

IF I WOULD’VE GONE TO AUSTIN……...

Oct 5, 2014 by

I think I mentioned my neighbor, Teresa, and I were going to Austin to see the GONE WITH THE WIND exhibit at the Ransom last week until we remembered it was the first weekend of ACL.  So, instead of turning on Hwy 71, we just kept going on 281.  Thanks goodness I remembered because not only was it ACL, but it was the Texas-Baylor game and downtown would have been just holy hell.  And what a shame.  I’m overdue on an Austin run.  Even tho it’s only about a 45 minute drive, sometimes Austin can be very far away.  I’m now down to going when I run out of freshly squeezed orange juice that I get from HEB on Bee Caves (I used to get it at Whole Foods but I’ve discovered it’s much cheaper...

LET’S GO TO LUCKENBACH, TEXAS...

Aug 3, 2014 by

You know the rest—-with Waylon and Willlllllll-ly and the boys.  O, come on, you know you know it!  That successful life we’re livin’ …yatta yatta yatta.  Well, we did go back—yesterday.  It had been ages since I had been to the place where “everybody is somebody”.  And boy, oh boy, has Luckenbach changed since my first visit in the seventies.  Not to mention, how much it has changed since it’s very beginning back in the mid 1800’s. Now, instead of circling the wagons to protect against Comanche Indians, they circle food trucks from Austin.  Take yesterday, some of Austin’s best movable feast vehicles moseyd on over and along with several Texas Hill Country Wineries displayed their treats and eats.  From lobster rolls to cupcakes and of course, bar-b-que!  After all, it is Texas.  To...
