WHEN I’M 64………..pounds heavier....

That’s what I think I gained on my last birthweek.  It was a calorie marathon and I crossed the finish line with flying colors.  Nooooo problem.  And, my friends really stepped up to the plate to insure I would not have a pang of hunger during that week by helping me celebrate all throughout the Texas hill country.  Marble Falls, Johnson City, Austin and Fredericksburg were the B-day destinations.  Here are some pictures of celebrating my sixty-fourth.  By the way, I’ve got a great idea for my next birthday gift………elastic!   (Click here to remember…..)                                                                                 ...

The Best Birthday He Never Had

Oct 26, 2015 by

The weekend didn’t turn out like I had planned—what an understatement.  Today is Dennis’ birthday and I had made plans to celebrate in San Antonio at La Cantera Hill Country Resort for the weekend.  We had dinner reservations at Silo and a tee time after a Sunday brunch, the next day.  Francesca was going to keep Mitch—–it was going to be a fun weekend.  Was.  I’m trying to remember the exact chain of events that caused the weekend detour. I reserved a ninety minute massage for Dennis on Friday afternoon to get the weekend off to a relaxing start.  That went well, he loved it.  The next morning, I made coast toast-an attempt to recreate a wonderful brunch dish we had in La Jolla.  At this point, I ask you to refer back to...

Oh Shit-did I really just turn 63?...

Jul 24, 2015 by

I know I’m going to wake up.  I’m not saying it’s a nightmare, it’s more like an out of body experience.  A 63 year old body experience.  No way!  I remember my Mother used to say the older you get, the faster time flies by.  That’s when I thought forty was old.  Not only do I see my Mother’s hands when I look down at the end of my arms, but I’ve starting to see her face when I look in the mirror.  Where has the time gone?  The strange thing is, based on my genetics, I’ve got about thirty years left in the tank!  What the heck am I gonna do the next thirty years?  Of course, everybody’s usual answer is “Travel!”  Maybe this is a sign of getting old, but I’m really starting...

WHAT’S ON YOUR PLAYLIST, LAZARUS?...

Aug 15, 2014 by

On August 22, I will remember my Mother on her birthday.  As I told you before, my Mother was a cute little thing.  When you met her you would immediately think of the word, sweet.  Her latter years were spent in a world that only she could navigate.  When I would visit her in the nursing home, I could enter her world, but she never could share mine.  Dementia would not let her.  Except for that one day when I wheeled her in to the big room where they were having the weekly music social.  I pushed her wheelchair up to the very front and pulled up a chair next to her.  The man always played the old songs.  I don’t mean The Platters or Elvis.  I mean the reeeeealy old ones like Bob...

YA SAY IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY???...

Jul 25, 2014 by

By the way, did I mention it was my birthday last week?  62.  Sixty-two.  Sixxxxxteeeee toooooooo.  I can’t even put an exclamation mark after it.  How does one punctuate an out of body experience because that’s what it feels like — it must be someone else, right?  Looking back, there were no signs.  Certainly, no warnings.  Except for those times when I had to grab something to get up off the floor after playing with Mitch, the dog.  And I have been a little stiff sometimes in the morning…..and what’s with that popping noise when I first wake up in the morning and walk into the kitchen?  Uh, now that I think of it, I do have to raise my eyelid up when I put shadow on so I cover all the lid.  Where...
