Plein-ly Speaking in Marble Falls...

You know I’ve always said, “We live in the best part of the best state in the best country in the world!”  Everyone knows about the Texas Hill Country.  Everyone knows about the Texas bluebonnets.  Everyone loves art—-especially good art…….Well, there’s something brewing in our beloved hill country, kind of a perfect storm, and it’s called PAINT THE TOWN.  It’s not only a chance for art patrons to see quality paintings of scenes that are so indicative of my hometown and outlying areas but, it’s also a fantastic chance and opportunity for “outsiders” to see just how spectacular our little part of the world is.  You may have heard of something called plein air painting.  Oui?  That’s French, ya’ll, for open (in full) air—-particularly outdoors.  The Marble Falls Paint The Town invites artist to submit their works...

WHEN I’M 64………..pounds heavier....

Oct 23, 2016 by

That’s what I think I gained on my last birthweek.  It was a calorie marathon and I crossed the finish line with flying colors.  Nooooo problem.  And, my friends really stepped up to the plate to insure I would not have a pang of hunger during that week by helping me celebrate all throughout the Texas hill country.  Marble Falls, Johnson City, Austin and Fredericksburg were the B-day destinations.  Here are some pictures of celebrating my sixty-fourth.  By the way, I’ve got a great idea for my next birthday gift………elastic!   (Click here to remember…..)                                                                                 ...

PRETEND YOU NEVER HEARD THIS…PLEEEEEEZ...

I’m going to tell you something, but, you have to swear you won’t repeat it.  I should just let it drop or go away, but, I can’t help it.  I’ve just got to tell someone.  I need to purge……..Okay.  Here goes……A couple of days ago, I was sitting in my rocker, having my second cup of coffee, going through emails, reading the paper and looked out the window.  It was our third day of horrible weather.  Gloomy.  Cold.  Damp.  Grey.  I know, I know–you people up north would’ve been out in shorts, but for us Texans, this was a horrible run on the weather.  I hadn’t walked Mitch in days, I had tried to get into a book.  I had over cooked and over eaten—-cabin fever had set in.  I was like James Stewart...

ONE IS SILVER AND THE OTHER GOLD...

Feb 8, 2015 by

Make New Friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other, gold.   Yesterday, I met my friend, Teri, for lunch in Fredericksburg for lunch at Vaudeville (you simply must go).  It was the perfect storm.  A beautiful day, divine food, and being with a dear friend that I’ve know since my Kerrville days — ummmm, that would be over twenty years, ago.  How I have stayed friends has been a really challenge.  Teri is this little bitty petite thing, the epitome of cuteness, and on top of all that—the sweetest person you will ever meet.  Yes, it’s really nauseating, but I’ve held in...

SO NOW WHAT?

Jan 5, 2015 by

It’s Monday, the start of the first full week of the new year.  Woo Hoo—I made it through another holiday marathon.  Not that this year was a killer social season.  No get away trip, a couple of parties, had neighbors over for champagne and cake, and of course—the required bout of the crud.  All in all, a nice smooth holiday.  The decorations are all packed and sent back to the store room and it is nice to have the house back to it’s openness.  The yard art is down and people have stopped driving by.  Not that it was on the level of the Griswolds, but it was a colorful display that I’ve grown to love.  I used to be an all white Christmas light person, but those days are gone after I met...
